General Remarks Site Panglao is an Island south of Bohol, connected with a bridge to the capital of Bohol: Tacbilaran. It is a booming tourist destination with the famous Alona beach along the east coast. Plenty of hotels: backpacker to luxury rooms. Plenty dive clubs. Good excursions to Bohol, Chocolate hills, Tarsier visits and others. The Panglao clubs make dive excursions to Balicasag and Pamilacan Island.
Facilities for Divers Plenty, especially in Alona Beach.
Type of Bottom Very nice bottoms rich in corals. Alona beach has a quite broad shallow with a drop-off starting about 10 m deep and going down to an average of 30 m. The Lapu lapu point is a drop-off offshore along the big shallow which forms the point of Panglao. Great corals in the shallow, nice drop-off, almost vertical.
Marine Life Very varied, especially in hard corals and fishes.
Visibility Usually clear water with visibilities from 15 to 30 m.
Currents Lapu lapu point can by tricky, Alonga beach less.
Level beginners and recreational when accompanied. Advanced for nightdives.
